Samsung Washer 5C code: Drain error
The washer could not pump the water out within the time it expects, or water is draining far too slowly. The cycle pauses with water left in the drum.
Most common causes
- Clogged drain pump filter (coins, hair ties, lint, small socks)
- Kinked, crushed or clogged drain hose
- Clogged household standpipe or sink drain
- Frozen drain hose in cold locations
- Failed drain pump
What you can safely check yourself
- Check the drain hose behind the washer for kinks, and make sure it is not crushed against the wall.
- On front-load models, place towels and a shallow pan down, then open the small door at the bottom front and clean the drain pump filter as your manual shows.
- Pour a little water into the standpipe or sink to confirm the house drain is not backed up.
- Power the washer off for a few minutes, then run a Spin or Drain cycle.
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
