The fan that blows cold air to the ice maker is blocked or not running. Frost or ice around the fan is the usual cause, and ice production slows or stops.
Most common causes
- Frost or ice buildup around the ice maker fan
- Door left ajar letting humid air in
- Failed ice maker fan motor
- Defrost problem letting frost build up
What you can safely check yourself
- Check that the doors close and seal fully
- Empty the ice bin, unplug the refrigerator and leave the doors open for at least 8 hours to defrost, with towels to catch water
- Dry the interior, plug back in and allow 24 to 48 hours to return to normal
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
