Whirlpool Washer F7E1 code: Motor or basket speed error
The washer cannot reach or read the drum speed it expects. On front-loaders it means the motor cannot hit the right speed for the cycle; on top-loaders it means the control cannot read basket speed or sees it change too quickly.
Most common causes
- Shipping bolts left in a newly installed front-loader
- Overloaded drum or clothing caught between basket and tub
- Loose wiring between control, motor and shifter
- Failing speed sensor, shift actuator or motor
- Control board fault
What you can safely check yourself
- On a new install, confirm all shipping bolts and spacers were removed from the back.
- Remove a few items if the drum is packed and make sure the basket turns freely by hand with the power off.
- Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, plug it back in and start a new cycle to see if the code clears.
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
