Whirlpool Washer F5E2 code: Door or lid won't lock
The washer tried to lock the door (front-load) or lid (top-load) before starting and could not confirm it was locked. The cycle will not run until the lock engages. On top-loaders the same problem can also show as LdL.
Most common causes
- Clothing caught in the door or an overloaded drum keeping the door from closing fully
- Something blocking the lid lock area on a top-loader
- Detergent or lint buildup around the lock that stops it sliding
- Worn or failed door/lid lock assembly
- Loose wiring to the lock or a control fault
What you can safely check yourself
- Open the door or lid and close it firmly until it latches.
- Remove any clothing sticking out past the door opening and take a few items out if the drum is packed tight.
- Wipe detergent and lint buildup off the lid lock and striker area.
- Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, plug it back in and start a new cycle to see if the code clears.
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
