Whirlpool Washer F5E3 code: Lid won't unlock
On top-load washers, the machine tried to unlock the lid at the end of a cycle or a pause and could not confirm it opened. The lid stays locked for safety until the control sees the lock release.
Most common causes
- Laundry basket or other items resting on the lid
- Dirt, detergent or foreign material jamming the lock bolt
- Failing lid lock assembly
- Wiring or control fault in the lock circuit
What you can safely check yourself
- Take everything off the top of the washer, including laundry baskets.
- Clean around the lid lock and striker with a damp cloth.
- Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, plug it back in and start a new cycle to see if the code clears.
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
