KitchenAid Dishwasher F9E1 code: Long drain (not draining)
On current models, the dishwasher could not pump the water out in the expected time. On some older models F9E1 instead means the control lost track of the diverter that switches water between spray arms.
Most common causes
- Clogged filter
- Kinked or clogged drain hose, or blocked air gap
- Garbage disposer knockout plug not removed, or disposer full
- Suds from using hand dish soap
- Failed drain pump (or diverter motor on older models)
What you can safely check yourself
- Remove and rinse the filter under running water.
- Check the drain hose under the sink for kinks and run the garbage disposer.
- On a new install, confirm the disposer knockout plug was removed.
- Use only automatic dishwasher detergent.
- Reset the control: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker if it is hard-wired) for 30 seconds, then restore power.
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
