KitchenAid Dishwasher error codes

On models without a text display, the dishwasher reports an error by blinking the Clean light in a pattern. Count the first group of flashes (the F number), then the second group after a short pause (the E number); for example 9 flashes, pause, 1 flash means F9E1.

The main control and the control panel stopped talking to each other properly. Buttons may not respond or the cycle will not start.

The control sees a problem with the water float switch that guards against overfilling. A dishwasher that is not level can tip the float and trigger this code.

On current models, the dishwasher is not sensing water coming in during the fill, so it cannot continue. Some models show H2O for this. On certain older models F8E1 instead signals a slow drain.

A float switch in the drip tray under the tub detected water where it should not be. The dishwasher starts draining and will not run until the code is cleared.

On current models, the dishwasher could not pump the water out in the expected time. On some older models F9E1 instead means the control lost track of the diverter that switches water between spray arms.

When all cycle and option lights flash together, the cycle has been suspended, usually because the door was opened mid-cycle. It is a status message, not a fault.

The dishwasher's main control detected a fault within itself, such as a stuck relay. The dishwasher may not start or may stop mid-cycle.

The dishwasher detected a problem with its water heating or drying heater. Dishes may come out cool, wet or not fully sanitized.

On current models this points to a problem between the control panel and the main control. On some older models the same flash pattern meant the dishwasher was not filling with water.

On current models, the dishwasher detected too much foam in the tub, which keeps it from filling and washing properly. Older models describe this as suds or air in the pump.

Water keeps coming into the dishwasher when it should have stopped. This can overflow, so the dishwasher sounds an alarm and tries to drain.

The Sani light flashes when the dishwasher could not reach the temperature needed for a sanitized cycle. Dishes are washed but not certified sanitized.
