GE Oven / Range F3 code: Oven temperature sensor fault
The control is getting an impossible reading from the oven temperature sensor, the thin probe inside the oven. F3 usually means the sensor circuit is open and F4 means it is shorted. Without a good reading the oven can't control its heat, so it stops.
Most common causes
- Failed oven temperature sensor
- Loose, burned or damaged wire at the sensor connector
- Oven control board not reading the sensor correctly
What you can safely check yourself
- Turn the oven off and let it cool.
- Switch off the range's circuit breaker for one to two minutes, then turn it back on to see if the code clears.
- Look inside the oven and check whether the sensor probe on the back wall has been bent or knocked by a rack.
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
