GE Oven / Range F2 code: Oven too hot
The oven control saw the oven temperature climb past a safe limit and shut the oven down. It often shows up during or right after a self-clean cycle, but it can happen during normal baking too.
Most common causes
- Oven temperature sensor giving a wrong reading
- Relay on the oven control board stuck on, so the element or burner keeps heating
- Overheating during a self-clean cycle
- Loose or damaged sensor wiring
What you can safely check yourself
- Turn the oven off and let it cool completely.
- Switch off the range's circuit breaker for one to two minutes, then turn it back on to reset the control.
- Try a short bake at a normal temperature and watch that it stays steady.
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
