GE Oven / Range error codes

The electronic oven control found a fault in itself. GE's support page links this code to the keypad (touch panel), while repair-parts guides for some older models blame the main control board. Either way, the problem is in the electronic controls, not the heating parts.

The oven control saw the oven temperature climb past a safe limit and shut the oven down. It often shows up during or right after a self-clean cycle, but it can happen during normal baking too.

The control is getting an impossible reading from the oven temperature sensor, the thin probe inside the oven. F3 usually means the sensor circuit is open and F4 means it is shorted. Without a good reading the oven can't control its heat, so it stops.

The control has detected a problem with the touch keypad, most often a button that reads as pressed when nobody is touching it. The oven may beep, refuse to take commands or shut off.

Something failed in the oven door lock circuit, the motorized latch that locks the door during self-clean. The oven may refuse to self-clean, or the door may stay locked.

The oven's electronic control board failed its own internal check. GE lists these codes as a sign that the control itself needs to be replaced.
