Whirlpool Dryer F22 code: Exhaust thermistor fault (older Duet dryers)
On older Whirlpool Duet dryers, the control sees the exhaust temperature sensor as an open circuit (F22) or a short (F23). The dryer shuts off shortly after starting because it cannot monitor exhaust heat. Newer models report this as F3E1.
Most common causes
- Failed exhaust (outlet) thermistor
- Loose or broken thermistor wires
- Control board fault if the sensor tests good
What you can safely check yourself
- Unplug the dryer for 5 minutes and restart it.
- Clean the lint screen and make sure the vent is not blocked.
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
