Maytag Dryer AF code: Restricted airflow
The dryer sensed that air is not moving freely through the lint screen and vent. It keeps running, but clothes take longer to dry and lint buildup in a blocked vent is a fire risk.
Most common causes
- Full or coated lint screen
- Lint-clogged exhaust duct or outside vent hood
- Crushed, kinked or overly long vent run with too many elbows
- Outside vent flap stuck shut
What you can safely check yourself
- Clean the lint screen; wash it with warm soapy water if dryer sheets leave a film.
- Pull the dryer out and check the duct behind it for kinks or crushing.
- With the dryer running, check the outside vent hood for strong airflow and clear any lint or blockage.
- Touch any key to clear the message after fixing the vent.
Unplug the appliance before moving or cleaning anything. Do not open panels, touch gas connections or bypass safety switches.
